the new addition to the little house kitchen – the hooiser cabinet
badly in need of cabinet space we found this guy at an antiques store on the eastside – for what seemed like a very reasonable 100 dollars. better than anything new, and certain fits our urban agrarian aesthetic, though it does sort of remind me of that craze some folks have for “country” stuff that always seem to involve stencils. but as long as we limit it to this one piece of furniture i suppose it’s ok.
in addition to adding cabinet space, it also has some nice built-in features – such as the flour sifter – which we haven’t tried out yet cause we need to clean out the paint chips inside it – and the sugar container – which we will likely take off cause we don’t use much sugar. it also has a book holder – handy for holding open a book to a recipe – spice rack – which is missing the jars that go in it, and adds some additional counter top space. i’d say it’s a fine addition.
